College Age

A Personal Note from Patty Pell,                                                                                                                        Christ Community's College Age Ministry Coordinator/files/Images/Adult Team/Patty Pell.JPG

Twenty years ago when my husband and I first started attending this church, it was a small building with a very small congregation of about 60 people.  They were a group of very faithful followers of Jesus Christ but were advancing in age.  They looked around at their congregation and asked God what they were being called to do.  They felt that God was saying to them that they should either lock the doors and join up with another church or let  him breathe new life into this place.  But if they allowed God to move, it might be uncomfortable.  They decided to open their lives and their church to the movement of the Spirit and let him do what he wanted in order to breathe new life in the congregation.

About this time God called Alan Kraft, a young pastor straight out of seminary, and some other young families to invest in this church.  And he began to call this congregation to open the doors to college students.  So, for the last 20 years, Christ Community Church has valued and embraced the campuses and the college students who spend a few years with us during this time of their lives.

This church has seen our role to be mentor and equipper for students as they briefly travel through Greeley and move out into the next phase of their lives and into new towns and cities.   For some….they never leave, and we are blessed to welcome them in as long-term, faithful worshippers in our community of faith.

So, with that history behind us -- and the fact that we currently have more than 2500 people in multiple services on two campuses participating in the life of Christ Community -- let me simply say that I still believe you continue to bring new life and energy to our church.  You bring a passion for the Lord and a willingness to serve him with your whole heart.  And that ministers to our entire church community, even as we long to minister to you.

You are very welcome here, and I want to make myself available to serve you, along with our entire church family!   I also hope you'll read the rest of this web page, explaining how our college ministry works here ar Christ Community.   At any point, however, if you'd like to dialog via. e-mail, phone or in person, my contact information is 970.353.1159, x203 / pattyp@cccgreeley.org.

How Our College Ministry Works @ Christ Community

There are two images that explain how our college ministry works here at Christ Community.

A Suitcase.

A suitcase is something you use when you travel, when you are/files/Images/Adult Ministries/blurry suitcase.jpg sent out, and it reminds us of a missionary.  There are many of you who come to college and see yourselves as being sent to the campus.  The campus is where you live, eat, spend time, make relationships, etc.

Christ Community wants you to see yourself as not just a college student who is a Christian, but a Christian who is also a student.  We want you to see the campus environment as the place where you will grow…in small group Bible studies and weekly fellowship meetings.  We want you to see yourself as ambassadors of Christ sent to UNC and to Aims.

There are campus ministries who do an outstanding job of helping students to be missionaries on campus.   And our philosophy here is to partner with those ministries and help you get plugged into their small group Bible studies and their weekly meetings.

Here are some links that will allow you to connect with them directly and find out more about what they have to offer ...

A Pillar.

The second image is a pillar.  A pillar is strong and sturd/files/Images/Adult Ministries/green pillar.jpgy.  It holds up the roof and yet it is part of the overall building structure.

There are some of you who will be pillars of the church.  You see your place of spiritual growth and mission as being through the local church.  You are committed to be part of the community of pillars that supports the church in the town of Greeley.  And your mission is not necessarily the campus but the community.  You want to be involved in Bible studies and in weekly gatherings that are connected to the local church.

For those/files/Images/Adult Ministries/Porch.jpg of you who identify as pillars: we have a college gathering for you.  It's called, "The Porch".   The front porch is just there, open and sociable, an unassigned part of the house that belonged to everyone and no one, a place for family and friends to pass the time.   The front porch existed as a zone between the pubic and the private, an area that could be shared between the sanctity of the home and the community outside.  It was an area where interaction with the community could take place.  So, "The Porch" can be your place of spiritual growth, community and a connection to mission in the community.

In the Fall of 2009, "The Porch" will meet on Sunday evenings at 6:00pm in Room 50 at CCC 15th Street campus We'd love for you to join us!
