The HIV/AIDS virus has devastated the African continent leaving millions of orphaned children without parents. The Uganda team believes there are many opportunities to positively impact the lives of those dealing with this deadly disease.
Since June of 2008, the Uganda initiative has been on an undeniable path--a path that God initiated. It is a lofty goal--buy four acres of land; build a school, teacher's living quarters, a library, a playground, and a community education center; and then teach basic information about HIV/AIDS, hygiene, health care, water purification, farming, and other income-building skills. All this in Uganda, a country and culture few are familiar with.
Christ Community Church will not implement this vision by itself, however. We are partnering with Evangelization Strategy for Africa (ESFA) in a village called Kabasindagizi, a village nested in the Rwenzori Mountains. The vision is to not only educate the region's children on these vital topics, but also educate the adults of the area. Ideally, native Ugandans will train and educate their own people, holding Bible studies and seminars on abstinence, marriage, and parenting.
We've completed the initial step in making this vision a reality--four acres of land near Kabasindagizi was purchased in the Fall of 2008. It may be a lofty goal to build the community center, but with God all things are possible.
