Current Lesson Series Overview

Anger, bitterness, and pride . . . these aren’t the only emotions that get us into hot water, but they are three of the biggies.

 

When we find ourselves in conflict, one of these three emotions is often the cause.

 

Middle schoolers are in a tough spot. Their emotions run high and their ability to recognize and deal with them runs low.

 

This series will help Middle School students recognize some causes of these three emotions and how to keep them in check.

 

Week 1: ANGER

Is it good or bad? Actually, anger can be both! This lesson looks at some of the root causes of unhealthy anger and how to cure it. The main point of this lesson: Am I bad when I get mad?

 

Week 2: BITTERNESS

When we don’t deal with our anger, it can often lead to bitterness, and bitterness leads to all sorts of problems. The main point of this lesson: When life hurts . . . don’t get bitter, get better!

 

Week 3: PRIDE

The Bible has all sorts of things to say about pride—and none of it is good! What causes pride? How can we rid ourselves of this dangerous emotion? The main point of this lesson: If I’m holding onto pride, I’m heading into problems!

These days it seems like everyone acts however they want and does whatever they please. We live in a society that is hesitant to present any type of acceptable standards. The creed of this generation is “just because it’s right for you, doesn’t mean it’s right for me.” Is there a right and wrong way to behave? Are there certain values that should affect how we act? Despite what the world says, the answer is YES! God does have some standards for behavior that He wants us to uphold.

 

This series will take a look at five biblical values that should be evident in our lives.

 

Week 1: INTRODUCTION

Week one defines and discusses their importance to everyday living. The main point of this lesson: What values are in my vault?

Week 2: HONESTY

Honesty doesn’t come easily, especially if it costs us something. This lesson will help students see the benefits of holding on to honesty. The main point of this lesson: When it comes to honesty, can I be counted on or counted out?

Week 3: RESPECT

What is the deal with respect? Do I have to respect everyone? This lesson takes a look at the value everyone wants, but few are willing to give. The main point of this lesson: Respect . . . the more I give, the more I’ll get!

 

Week 4: RESPONSIBILITY

How many times have you heard this one, “It wasn’t me!” Getting junior high students to learn the value of responsibility is a tough challenge. This lesson should help get you get started. The main point of this lesson: Responsibility . . . there’s no excuse!

Week 5: SELF-CONTROL

This lesson contrasts the person with self-control and the one without it. The main point of this lesson: Self-control . . . don’t leave home without it!

Week 6: FORGIVENESS

The most important value of all. Our ability to forgive others and to accept forgiveness for our faults is the key to life. The main point of this lesson: Forgiveness sets people free!
