An Adoption, Foster Care, and Orphan Care Ministry @ Christ Community

"God sets the lonely in families"

Psalm 68:6

We desire to connect in authentic community through both small group atmospheres, as well as large group events. We are focused on helping children and families as they travel the adoption or foster journeys. While all who have been touched by the miracle of adoption share a common bond, each journey is unique and presents its own joys, and challenges. We are here to inform, encourage, and pray for families and individuals that are pursuing adoption or foster care, sharing a realistic understanding of both the joys and challenges adoptive and foster families often face. The journey continues after the child is welcomed into the family, so we desire to provide effective information, support and resources to post-adoptive families. We have also set up an Adoption Assistance Fund for families that are adopting.

News and Updates

Big News! – Project 1.27 will be up in Greeley this Spring!

Many of our families have gone through this ministry for their adoptions and know what a blessing they are to partner with. They will be doing their Orientation at Journey Church on March 13 for families wanting to learn more about the Foster Adopt process. Then, Christ Community will be hosting their follow-up trainings, March 30/31 & April 13/14. We know this is an answer to prayer for some of you that haven’t been able to make it down to Englewood for their trainings – now you can be closer to home! We’ll need some help hosting these events, so we’ll keep you posted about details soon.

More Big News! - Empowered To Connect, together with Show Hope, will host the next Empowered To Connect Conference in Denver, Colorado on April 8-9, 2011.

Online registration for the conference is now open. Many of us from FFM attended this conference last year in Denver and were very empowered! We would highly recommend all of you going if you can make it work! The main speaker, Dr. Karin Purvis, is also the author of the book, The Connected Child. The Empowered To Connect Conference is a two-day conference for adoptive and foster parents, ministry leaders and professionals designed to help them better understand how to connect with children from hard places in order to help them heal and become all that God desires for them to be. Led by Dr. Karyn Purvis (Director of the TCU Institute of Child Development ), together with Michael & Amy Monroe (Leaders of Tapestry Adoption & Foster Care Ministry), this conference is ideal for adoptive and foster parents, those considering adoption or foster care and those who are serving and supporting others, including social workers, agency professionals, church staff and ministry leaders, counselors, therapists and others involved in adoption and foster care ministries or services. Conference sessions will be held from 9 am until 5 pm on both days. Light refreshments will be provided during breaks throughout the event, with "on your own" lunch breaks scheduled from 12:00 to 1:30pm. All participants are highly encouraged to attend sessions on both days. Professionals may be eligible to receive CEU credit for their participation. Visit www.etcconference.org for more details and to register online. Early-bird registration runs until March 1, with a cost of only $35 for individuals and $50 for couples -- and this covers both days!

Even Bigger News!! – Due to the Christmas Gift Catalog at church and a very generous donor, there is currently $30,000 in the ABBA Fund!

Yes, you read that right with 4 zeros!! The ABBA Fund offers financial adoption assistance through interest-free loans to help families with adoption expenses. We are totally amazed at just this one way God provides for adoptive families. But really, it shouldn’t surprise us at all that the God who calls us to care for the precious orphans, would use the ‘church’ working together to provide a means for it all to happen! To apply for funds, you just need to have completed your Homestudy. Then contact Doug Bowen at Christ Community (dougb@cccgreeley.org) for an application that will be sent out to a separate ABBA Board to disperse the funds. The money is there – let’s use it!
